Test iText in Microsoft Word

  • Download Demo_iText.doc, save it to your local disk (Do not open it in browser)
  • Open Microsoft Word and Set the security level to Medium (Tools-> Macro->Security Level)
  • Click on menu File->Open to open Demo_iText.doc and Enable the macro
  • Typing some Vietnamese or French text and press Ctrl+Space to put the accents automatically
  • If it works fine, you can install iText in Microst Word.
    Otherwise, please click here to install the web service package from Microsoft and reopen Demo_iText.doc to test

Full installation, this version does not need Internet Connection to work but needs Java Runtime Environment. If you do not have Java on your machine, please install Java run time environment (JRE) from Sun microsystem. Click on Free Java Download and follow the instructions

How to install the full version

  • Download setup file and save it to your local disk,
  • Run setup and follow the instructions to install server and plugins

iText is installed as macro in Microsoft® Word (version 2003 or later) so there is no specific requirement to run iText. The only thing you need is Internet Connection and make sure that you can access this address

How to install

  • Automatically: you have to unzip the downloaded file and run Installer.exe (.Net is required). If you do not have .Net platform please install from Microsoft website

  • Manually: you can manually copy these two files iText.dot and config.txt to startup folder of Microsoft® Word specified in Tools->Options->File Localtions.

How it works

iText does not affect Microsoft® Word performance at all, you can trigger iText only when needed by using two following functions

Ctrl+Space (iText->Active the selection) to put accents on the selected sentences or the current sentence if there is no selection.

Press Ctrl+Space or click on menu iText->Accent the sentence

Ctrl+K (iText->Show Suggestions) to show the suggestions to correct the error.

For example: you need to type in the following text (292 word). You need 1264 keystrokes to type in (with VNI for Vietnamese input method)  but with iText, you type in Vietnamese text without accents (938 keytrokes), select all text using Ctrl+A and finally  Ctrl+Space to let  iText automatically put Vietnamese accents for you.

Here is the result, as you can see there are only two errors (0.6% ). 

If you want to correct these error, you can select the words and press Ctrl+K, iText will show the suggestions in popup menu , you can select the right one using mouse

iText can put accents on text  with the speed around 2000 words per second so iText is really a time saving tool for typing the text with accents such as Vietnamese and French
